How did you make the background so evenly black with pencils?

hi... its called burnishing i think... basically you use a soft grade pencil (6B maybe) to cover the background, and then you go over everything again with a harder grade (like a B) - and this time you'll have to use some pressure/a hard grip. It takes a LOT of time and is kind of tiresome to do... I also used staedtler pencils as they often are softer and darker than any other kind of graphite i've tried.
That being said you'll get a lot of shine/reflections from the graphite this way.. more than you use to.
I don't recommend doing this as you'l get a way better result from charcoal and just a fraction of the work...

thanks :) i dont remeber exactly what i did with this particulare drawing... have used both scanners and cameras ...but i belive i used a camera since i DO remember that i had some trouble with shine/reflection on it... the blacks come from staedlers very dark graphite combined with burnishing, but since its graphite you will almost always get reflection when you scan/photograph it... avoiding it is troublesome...  nowadays i only use camera, but since i also only draw with charcoal( its always BLACK and have no shine) its not a problem anymore at all...
